When involved in play by post roleplaying, such as on message boards or by email or even in a live chat using the FFRP style. One would notice varying points of view used by different roleplayers.
I have always pondered the best way to express the plot your involved in and still make your character relate-able. Here at this RP community we ask players use third person point of view because we feel it is best suited for FFRP, of course this is personal opinion. Third person has two distinct different views itself , explained as follows.
Third person, subjective: With third person you use the pronouns "he" and "she," but you are still telling the story through one character's eyes. You get close to your main character by showing only his or her thoughts and feelings and following that character through the story, but you don't have to write the narration as if it's coming out of your main character's mouth. This is often the easiest point of view for beginning writers to master and can carry through an entire RP with multiple players if they all use the same perspective. It will help the stories run smoothly for the readers if all players are using the same.
Be careful not to comment or editorialize upon your character's actions (Billy should have known better), or speak directly to the reader (Can you guess what happened next?). You as the author must remain invisible so your readers can immerse themselves within the world of your story.
Omniscient: The omniscient point of view is like looking at the story through a movie camera. You can show the reader what's happening in several places at once, but you don't get close to any one character or see their thoughts. This is also a great method method for players to post in but also more difficult and usually seen in only more advanced RP posters. This can be useful at the beginning of a chapter to set the scene, but after a paragraph or two switch to the viewpoint of your main character. An entire book written with the omniscient point of view does not allow the reader to identify with any one character or know whose story you are telling.
Personally I for a long time used third person subjective, though have now mastered the omniscient view as well to create greater detail in my rp and plots for fellow players it alows me to involve more NPC's this way as well.
By using third person while rolplaying it too separates you from your character, which is very important in roleplaying and highly encouraged here in this community. So many times have I seen people "live" through their characters and eventually become upset and depressed when bad events eventually occur. Using this point of view helps remind roleplayers that they are"writing" a story, not telling their "life story".
